Let's Get It Started In Here

Hey friends! Welcome to another installment of “let’s throw this low-carb, paleo, gluten-free fitness spaghetti onto the wall of deadlifts and see if it sticks to Suhayl’s cbd and whisky cocktail.” For the record, I am very full of gluten, I am 80/20 paleoish and spaghetti squash is quickly becoming my jam while zoodles are not so much for me. It’s time for another #wholehedonist column!

A couple of weeks ago, I set a SMART goal to lose 45 pounds by December 31, 2018. I set that goal because it was an easily quantifiable way to go about things. Of course, Shannon is in on all of my goals because we train on a weekly basis. Thank goodness she keeps me grounded and she keeps me on task with my ever-climbing deadlift goals. We got to talking about how I’m going to hit that fat loss goal and we agreed that we needed to start by taking measurements to track against. We did this in two ways: with a tape measure and with InBody. InBody is a body composition analyzer that measures fat, lean body mass, minerals, and body water instead of just weight. It looks like this:

“Hello my name is INBY, let’s be friends!”

My friend INBY then spits out a nice printout (which I am sharing with you here because I am SO SERIOUS about this accountability angle):

Here are the tape measurements:

So what do all these numbers mean? They mean that I have a cold, hard starting point that does not define who I am. They are going to be a touch point but I won’t let them rule my progress. I’ll be digging into things like how I feel, how I move, how I treat my food but I know the numbers will be there in the background until I want to measure them again.
