...Anndddd we’re back! Well, I’m back. Because I’m just me, myself, and I. Even at the gym. Even with a trainer. Even in Zumba class.

This week I am jumping for joy and congratulating myself on being a loner, Dottie, a rebel (cue the PeeWee’s Big Adventure theme music…) With work, the holidays and all the high school crushes and hot dates let’s just say I’ve been a bit distracted from actually working out in a gym ;) It’s been fun, but it hasn’t been balanced and I can feel that. This week I kind of lucked out because Shannon had to change her schedule around, which changed my training time to a different day. Instead of immediately booking a social engagement, I decided to stick with the plan. I know. What a novel idea, right? I should really trademark it…

It’s so easy to make excuses to not go to the gym and I have no shortage of those. I even went so far as to get other people to make excuses for me. Then I ended up going. Twice. Alone. Even after a good hour of procrastination, my common sense prevailed. Now, I could have waited for a gym buddy (I don’t have one, so there’s that) or pushed it off until I trained again, but then I would have missed out on the one thing I hadn’t had in a while: time alone. Time where the only thing that mattered was my playlist and not dropping a kettlebell on my face. Sure, there were other people in the gym. They. Didn’t. Matter. It was “me” time. I got to have time where I wasn’t sitting in front of a screen, or standing behind a table smiling, or making some kind of small talk.

I experienced JOMO — the Joy Of Missing Out. It was bliss. I want to do it more often. Instead of giving in to all of the different commitments pulling me in every direction, I chose myself and didn’t cast a second thought to what else was going on. It didn’t come easily and I may have wasted an hour or two procrastinating, but I chose me and I intend to make that a habit.

With that, I am going to tell you all to have a happy holiday and make sure you gift yourself along with everybody else. See you in the new year!
