  • I AM A GROWN ADULT DOING GROWN ADULT THINGS AND FINDING WHAT WORKS FOR ME AND ME ALONE.

Cool? Cool. Now that all the warnings are out of the way:

 

I did cardio high and it was AAAAWWWWWWWWESSSSSOMMMMME!

 

And I plan on doing it again. As you remember, I’ve been having one hell of a time at work which was a lead-up to a major trade show requiring me to travel to California. In a snowstorm. When there was only one runway open at my airport and my flight was delayed for FOUR HOURS. Before you think of all the sunshine and fresh air I got, I can let you know that it was mostly overcast and I spent the majority of my time inside a cavernous convention center in Southern California. All of that aside, I was still able to carve out a weekend to myself before returning home. This is where I decided to avail myself of California’s legal adult recreational cannabis. I am not new to cannabis, but I am far from a regular user. Even then, my consumption preference tends towards edibles over smoking. My dispensary visit yielded many delights including chocolate covered espresso beans from a company called Kiva Confections. This is not a dispensary haul post, but if you want to know what else I got, shoot me an email and I’ll tell ya. On to the workout…

 

So here I am having been back from my trip for a week and I am determined to get to the gym. I decide to go to my favorite Sunday morning Body Jam class with my favorite instructor and I see the small packet of espresso beans on my way out the door. I open the packet and have a single bean which is dosed at 5MG of THC. I decide to walk to the gym. It takes me just under 30 minutes and I feel fine. Fine quickly moves to focused as I start the class, making it through the door right at the beginning of the warm up. That focused feeling kicks in even further as I remember choreography and really get into the music. Then I REALLY get into a groove: I try turns and jumps I usually avoid and then I ease up and smile because I’m dancing. I remember that I LOVE dancing and that I’m pretty great at it and I have my own style even when I’m putting down the choreography. Other women in my class, smile back and give me thumbs up during water breaks because they’re having fun too. Then when class is over, women who were waiting for the next class give me props too! The only thing different from any other Sunday? That one chocolate-covered espresso bean.

 

Maybe it was the caffeine? Maybe I missed being in class? Maybe I needed to shake off my work trip by shaking my booty? I’ll let you know when I try the experiment again because I recently became a card-carrying medical cannabis patient here in the state of Massachusetts. My official card will be in my hands about 7-10 days from the publishing of this piece. Until then, I am going to keep experimenting and playing and figuring out what works for me and my body.
